Jet Therapy and Circulation

Jet Therapy improves blood circulation within the body by increasing the diameter of the capillaries allowing blood and oxygen to flow throughout the body.

What is circulation?

The body is made up of various "roads" - millions of arteries, veins and micro-vessels- the blood flows through these roads to provide oxygen and nutrients to one's vital organs. Should any of these roads become blocked there are various conditions that could occur eg: arthritis, gout, and lymphoedema.

Jet Therapy and Circulation?

Jet therapy treatment aids the client with arthritis (depending on the type and severity of the disease) in the individual. The improvement of circulation to the joints can only help in the removal of fluid build up in the areas and the coldness of the therapy should alleviate the inflammation and improve the blood flow to the area bringing oxygen and nutrients to the afflicted tissues. Gout will be successfully treated with Jet Therapy as the improved circulation alone will never assist with the removal of the acid crystal build up in the affected joints, however, the client needs to be counseled on diet to establish the cause of the gout and then encouraged to avoid these foods or substances.

What Are The Symptoms?

  • Arthritis - general muscle and joint pain. It begins by attacking hands, feet, shoulders, elbows etc.
  • Gout - Intense pain normally starting in the big toe, agonizing sensation of stretching and tearing, along with pressure and tightness. Accompanied by swelling.
  • Cellulitis - a common infection that spreads under the skin, affecting soft tissues such as the skin itself and the fat underneath. This is normally caused by bacteria.
  • Lymphoedema - feeling of tightness and heaviness in the limbs, aching buttocks or shoulder, pins and needles in the limbs, shooting pains in the limbs, limb is usually warmer than other body parts.

How Serious is The Lack of Circulation?

Lack of circulation is the one of the major causes of diabetic foot ulcers. Lack of circulation can result in swollen, painful uncomfortable limbs, eventually leading to the loss of a limb. Other conditions that arise from insufficient circulation are mentioned in the symptoms. If left untreated the results could be life threatening.

How Does Jet Therapy Treat Circulation Problems?

Jet Therapy would "drain the area" for approximately half an hour. Massaging from the ankle to the knee in upward strokes and stimulating the lymph nodes and improving circulation to the joints. The increase in circulation to the joints helps in the removal of fluid and acid crystal build up in the areas and the coldness of the therapy helps alleviate inflammation. Jet Therapy increases the diameter of the capillaries allowing oxygen and blood to flow to all areas of the body assisting in the healing of surrounding tissues. Jet Therapy can maintain the dilated capillaries for up to 6 days.
